New form of communication
One of the great things about Plurk is that it's a new form of communication. It's really a morph between micro-blogging, email, Twitter and chat. Why?
These things combined yield a new form of communication that's different, but resembles communication that people know. On the Plurk team we use Plurk to communicate internally, to discuss features, report bugs etc. and so far it's been a real success. Sample plurks that show-case how Plruk communication works: As you can see people communicate with each other, jokes are made and people discuss. Sure similar communication can be found on other mediums, but I don't think anything resembles communication that Plurk represents.
