New form of communication

One of the great things about Plurk is that it's a new form of communication. It's really a morph between micro-blogging, email, Twitter and chat. Why?
  • Plurk isn't instant if you don't want it to be. You can check it a few times daily, just like email
  • But Plurk can be instant, you'll get notifications about updates instantly if you're on the site and you can chat in almost real time with other users
  • You can respond to old Plurks and keep a discussion ongoing - like with email
  • Plurk has restrictions like Twitter, this forces people to be precise and not write novels

These things combined yield a new form of communication that's different, but resembles communication that people know.

On the Plurk team we use Plurk to communicate internally, to discuss features, report bugs etc. and so far it's been a real success.

Sample plurks that show-case how Plruk communication works:

As you can see people communicate with each other, jokes are made and people discuss. Sure similar communication can be found on other mediums, but I don't think anything resembles communication that Plurk represents.
