Another perspective on Iran

I think that's most people here in Britain's view as well. I think it's partly due to most of the problems being in the more...deserty areas, but there is also a lot of media manipulation in it too.

It's mainly media manipulation. You know, it's much easier to put sanctions and start a war with a fundamentalistic, primitive, poor, Islamic, ... Iran, then with a well-working country.

I'm happy not to live in Iran. Fundamentalism is a plague !
Yes, they have cities, cars and nature... So what ?
Don't be fooled so easily ! Think about Dubai... It seems to be all luxury and modernism. But in fact, it STINKS when you look where the money come from, when you know that those wonderful skyscrapers are built by SLAVE workers (they work incredibly hard, they are under-underpaid, and they have no choice because their papers are retained).

My little rant :)

I know at least one very well educated Iranian who would say a lot of positive things about Iran, but he would be the first to tell you how awful the regime is down there as well. Don't be fooled by the level of civilization in Iran, it's true that it's not a poor underdeveloped country by many standards but the Power still lies with a religious dictatorship and if you don't agree with that faction then you either have to shut up or run - and fast. Iran is like many other countries plauged by a hard split between rich and poor, and conformist and nonconformist, and the wrong side is very bad while the "right" side might be a joyous experience.

In short Iran is a mighty contry but also very different then most of the western world, but is this difference as bad as it is shown in the media? for some who want to think for themselves yes, for others; no.

In case it's necessary that I precise: I don't say that all Iranians are fundamentalists. The Iranian government is, and that's scary. I'm also scared by religious zealots that are Bush and his staff.

Iran isn't an utopia - no country is. My main point is, that there is another Iran that the media does not cover - and that's my only point. Focusing only on the negative can have bad consequences, like a war vs. one of the worlds oldest civilizations.

Very nice pictures indeed. Level of civilization or not. Nobody should make war there. Do you really think the Iran is stupid enough to nuke a country? It would instantly result in an counter attack. And everybody knows the consequences.

And I still think Ahmadinedschad isn't a worse leader than Bush or one of our European politicians.

In my mind everybody should be able to discuss things. About everything. Including holocaust, war crimes etc. Even a topic like holocaust should be legal to discuss. Disclaimer: I personally don't dispute the holocaust! But killing discussions before they start is something that's not right. Independently of the topic.

hi, i am from egypt, i know that what i will say may surprise you, but here in egypt also some media show iran as that radical, primitive country, while they are indeed more civilized than us, i don't mean by evolution (alone), but mainly by corruption that eat my country, by subordination to usa, if we are talking about the regime, bush blame iran for the lake of democracy (!!!) (iran's democracy is much stronger than usa's) while treating our old president (25 year as president) as friend !, that is subordination, and iran is not going for it.
last week iranian ex-president khatami (which is a philosophy) was here in bibliotheca alexandrina, while talking about various things related to the dialogue among civilization, he is asked about iran's nuclear program, then he said that this program was started after him then he had to explain their needs for clean energy and pollution and the next generation share of oil, and most developed country go for nuclear energy, then he is asked what about nuclear weapon, and he smiled and said "that's me who started the project, and most of you know that khatami wasn't thinking of nuclear weapon" (the iranian revolution council declared decades ago that weapons of mass destruction are denied by islam religion (because most those weapons kill aren't militant) and iran will never use them) to complete his sentence he said "but that may differ if that's bushy whom started the project :)"

Hi thank you for your creative idea to take these pictures and show the real life of Iran to people of abroad. I came out of Iran for too years to complete my study and I have tried to be representative of real life in Iran. I described for people the real life in Iran and show them the pictures and tell them the story of our civilization. But when I see people give me unbelievable look when describe for then I just get disappointed but I think may be this is not their fault….they are hypnotized by powers who have capability of making the 300 … or many other weapons to brain wash..
Sometime I get tried to describe to these people but when I see some people like you exist…I feel I have to continue…

I visited Iran after 32 years of living in the west, mainly UK and USA and to be honest, I liked it alot!
Sure, there are many new things, tall buildings, new cars, even the Police drive a Benz and the motorcycles are all BMW's which I love.
I think the best part was the Food and the gental kindness that only Iranian people can bring about. What a treat to say the least. Thank you Iran!

I am sure it is true that the media often give IRAN a negative image but I tried to discuss this in a positive way with a e mail friend living in IRAN,this was at the time the British sailors were being held in IRAN but she just would not listen to my view from the UK.Just her own governments view.If the one woman sailor wanted to serve in her countries armed forces why should she be villified by anyone.If men and women are treated really equaly, then she should have the same rights even such a one as that as a man has to serve his country.But I agree these pictures show a better and more successful IRAN than our media does,Sadly my friend just stopped being my friend,no arguement,just stopped.That says something in my oppinion.

Beautiful pictures. I am glad I found this site. In the 1960-70's the Iranian pilots trained in the USA. I lived in a town with one of these airbases. I dated some of the pilots and they were very polite gentlemen. I hope to travel and visit one day if the turmoil can ever be settled. Thanks again for the pics.

life. my parantes were born in iran and came to israel in the late 60'. they miss iran and allwais tell me how beutifull it is. i would realy like to visit iran.
your opinion on iran is very romantic but i think it will take some time before we could say "iran wellcomes all religions and coltures..."

Why are people doing this? All those people. Why?

I'm an Iranian and proud of being it. I support neither Mulla's regime nor Shah. (na invari, na oonvari, goore pedare harvari)
We could defend our country in 8 years war with Iraq (which has been supported by USA, UK, France, Germany, Israel and most Arab countries); and we could also resist US & Europe's sanctions in several years. We had big losses by external enemies and intern traitors but we are always going forward. We solve our problems ourselves without any foreign help or force.
I don't care about how media presents Iran or people in other countries think about my country.

What is important is that we know ourselves, our capabilities, our rich culture and teach this to our children.

let the others get brain-washed, entertained by their media and drown in their paradox.

Iran actually is far more civilized than how it is shown in the west. But the real life in a country is not just about buidlings and cars. I have left Iran for 4 month to work in Kazakhstan. I live in a small city, but here I feel freedom.
It was so disgusting to me, seeing police cars in the streets of Tehran, with those nasty cops, looking for girls who are not dressed based on the "so-called" Islamic code.
It is disgusting to know that the police may knock on your door to investigate whether you have a satellite reciever and what you watch on your TV.
It is disgusting that you may be qustioned by the police, any moment, when you are walking in the park with your girl/boyfriend, of your relationship and that you are guilty if you are with a girl/boyfriend.
It is disgusting that the givernment has the right to accuse you if you keep certain types of drinks (alc.) in your home or the music you listen or the movie you watch or what you write in your personal webpage...
I am truly happy that I am not in my most loved home... and this is the confusing contradiction of being an Iranian.

For everyone's more information, keeping a satellite dish at home in Iran may bring you over $5000 charge, plus your whole receiver system and every multimedia device, CDs, etc. being removed by the police. And it is all the case if you are Iranian. For foreigners, it's totally free. This is another aspect of Iranian government's hospitality ;-)

Hi, I was searching for Iran's nature pics to send to my Foreign friend that i found this site, so i am supposed to say:

I am an Iranian girl who live in Iran. By this I am not defending Iran nor condeming it. I am just saying what i think it's true. I can say that almost all of the above comments are somehow true. It's true that I do love my own country because i was born and raised here, but it doesn't mean that because of that i should ignore the real Facts about the Real Iran. That is obvious for everyone that Iran has a beautifl nature, great history,... . This is only the one side. looking at the other side you can figure out that most ppl living in Iran are not satisfied with the current Iran (current condition in Iran, current regime,government), that's not because they hate Islam and being a Muslim, It's because they have seen that the government is not willing to do something for it's ppl's welfare, they knew that Mullas (the so-called religious authorities) are just misusing the name of Islam for their own profits.... they suffer from the pressure of economic problems that the government has imposed on them. The government doesnt care about the ppl here, they mostly think of pocketing money. And if an honest person can be found to serve the country and it's ppl, they will obstruct that...

I should say this too:
In Iran ppl and mostly Women have more freedom comparing to some other 3rd_world countries (such as Suadi Arabia) and of course not comparing to the developed ones (such as European countries, etc). I wonder if you know that In Suadi Arabia women cannot even drive let alone of other things.... but in Iran we have women as a member of Parlimant, they can drive,... . Everything in Iran tends to be improving but that seems it have to take a long time because of the goverment's approach.

It seems to me that Iran is like a person that his boat is got stuck in the sea,likely to be drowned and everyone is watching, want to help but no one does anything!! they are only the best observer,.. no one is doing a thing for improving this awful situation...

There is much more to say and discuss about, but in whole I believe that ppl of other countries should respect the ppl of everywhere,... I know that most of countries including USA think that Iranian ppl are such wild, impolite, uneducated, ignorant... ppl. They forgot that there are some Iranian surgeons, doctors,engineers... living in that countries and are working much better than their native ones.

Everywhere has bad ppl as well as good and nice ones, one shouldnt judge a whole by knowing only a bit of the thing.

im a persian girl who fled to usa .my graet iran is a hell now. the islamic gaverment is the worst one. they destroy my country.. they destroy nature and history. people are mentaly sick( specially women)they hang people in streets.iranians live in a big prison and they even dont know.god bless george bush .he was the only man in the world who said iranians have right to be free. other countries dont say any thing cuz they need cheap oil. why should i live here alone and cry for my family and my land ?why 6 milion iranians must live in exile...if u travel to another cities, u will undrestand the meaning of POVERTY compeletly.they spend the money earned by selling oil to support terrorist. i can prove it...my iran is diying slowly ... prustitution ,poverty,crime is in higher level than 30 years ago.

I feel respect to Iranian high culture. I were proud to Iranian tradition, in philosophical problem. And, of course, I like some of philosopher from Iran such as Muthahhari, Nasr, Sadra, etc. At my campus in Bandung-WestJava, we have Iran Corner and have been established several months ago. With cultural aproach, we can grow mutual understanding between Iranian people and Indonesian people.

Sorry all you that are trying to show Iran in a nice light. I don't care how nice the scenery is, or the cities, or anything that can be shown in a pretty picture. It's not the landscape that we hate, it's not even the people, well not most of them anyway I believe. It is Islam.....oooppps, I'm not allowed to say I hate a religion am I. Ok, let me put it this way........I hate people that think it's ok to kill people for things like....sex between consenting adults....homosexual acts......not believing in the religion they tell you too......yeah....churches in Iran.....they just passed a death sentance for leaving the religion of Islam.....and if someone really deserves execution......like a mad dog serial killer.....then is should be done quick....painless.....and with a minimum of fear put on the prisoner......in Iran they lift you up and let you dangle until you are dead....women are gang raped the night before to make sure they are not virgins to ensure they can not get a free virgin ticket to heaven. Even downloading anything "UnIslamic" on the net now has a manditory death sentence.....I HATE PEOPLE WHO DO ALL THESE THINGS......weather they are muslims or not.....the fact that Iran is run by people like this.....and that they get there authority from the Koran.....and everything they do is justified and mandated in the Koran.....I've read it...studied it....along with ahadith.....and they ARE following it precisely......down to a tea.......well....guess what.......that means I hate Islam..

I'm sure I could have walked around Nazi Germany with a Camera and took a lot of lovely pictures of lovely people and places too......so what....doesn't change the fact that the regime running the joint is rotten to the core.

I hope one day the regime can overthrow that pack of mullah arseholes and make them rot in tiny jail cells in solitary confinement for the rest of their lives......or maybe they should have a big pubic mass execution to celebrate the end of the cruel regime by executing them all using their own methods ......one more time.......for the last time......before the true Persain identity is resumed and peace and love rule the country once again.
