dmoz2mysql is downloaded over 2000 times

My dmoz2mysql PHP script is downloaded more than 2000 times! That's pretty nice since it's such a "niche" script.

I am now thinking of rewriting the whole script in Python. The new project would consist of:

  • Downloading of the files, extracting, cleaning and parsing all done in Python
  • XML DMOZ parser
  • SQLObject representation of the database
  • Simple CherryPy application that can browse the DMOZ database
  • Advance AJAX CherryPy application that can browse the DMOZ database in an elite way

Now of course, I have a lot of on-going projects, but this one would be damn cool to make! Of course, all this would be GPLed.

I have some really cool ideas on how one could represent a catalog (that would be radical different then the way they are represented today). Actually, lately I am just overwhelmed with great ideas that go from interface design, program verification, application design, client-server communication, cluster based computing, VIM configuration...
