Using Todoist to structure tasks

I use Todoist to improve Todoist. And so far the results have been really good.

If I need to implement something, I use following approach:

  • I add a general task with a date when I want the task to be completed. A general task could be "Implement collapsing".
  • If I don't have a clear picture of how to complete the task, I brainstorm on what the sub-task are. I add them without a date.

The force of this approach is that I know what to do next. The main problem I have faced in the past has been that I work with something and I don't know how to move on. I think this is a general problem for a lot of people.

The golden rule to follow is:

  • Add sub-tasks to a task if it's not clear how to complete the task.

An example

I am currently implementing collapsing feature and here is how I structure it:

Todoist list 1

I have close to 700 completed items in my Todoist project - i.e. I use this approach a lot:

Todoist completed items
