Orangoo Spell with new GoogieSpell version

Check out Orangoo Spell with the new GoogieSpell!

What's new in version 3.0:

  • GoogieSpell is now even easier to integrate in your own application(s)
  • GoogieSpell does not use the global namespace anymore. Actually, the global namespace does not get poluted in any way with the new AmiJS version. Just to make it clear: This is a complete rewrite of the 2.0 code.
  • Support for spell check on more than one text area
  • Much better support for spell check on HTML content
  • No difference between the styles (GoogieSpell error window is now tweaked so it has same style as the text area)
  • New minimal and ultra simple user interface
  • "No spelling errors found" isn't alerted anymore (this was really annoying)
  • Opera browser is now supported
  • Plus some small tweaks and bug fixes

I haven't released the new version yet, but it will come eventually.

I think Orangoo is a great idea. I have already used it to check my dodgy italian spelling. I have also recommended it to fellow language students. However, it does not seem to load fully at the moment. I cannot choose which language to spell check.

Hi Andrew

Thanks for the kind words :)

Is this still an issue? What system are you on and what browser do you use?
Have you tried to clean the browser cache?

Yes this is still an issue. I just tried without clearing the cache and then again having cleared the cache.

My browser is Firefox: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1

Hi again Andrew

I think this is my fault. I have moved the change language from the left side to the right side. And I haven't just moved it, I have also made it smaller (it's now an arrow). Maybe not a wise move :-( Anyway, I have now written on the site how to change the language in this new version. Thanks a lot and I hope this new explanation makes it more clear how to change the language in the new version.

I have tested it in Firefox 1.5.01 on Windows and it works fine (so it must be my user interface optimizations). Damn, it is shocking to see that something that was clear for me isn't clear for others...

Anyway, I have a service in my mind that would be perfect for teachers. And I would love to have you on my evaluation team. Or just to contact you if I have any more changes to Orangoo Spell. If you are interested, you can send a mail to amix@amix.dk

Hi there, I'm from Argentina, we speak Spanish in here, and everytime i recommended someone to use orangoo they kept saying it was in English.

It is really user-friendly but you know, not-geek people (mum) was not happy, so I've made a few modifications of the script and set up an Spanish version made from the last version available of GoogieSpell.

It is located at < a href="http://revisor.com.ar">revisor.com.ar, I've made some changes to the way the textarea is handled and tweak a bit the css too. Hope you don't mind and feel free to sneak around ;)

Thanks god, the previous post was an April fool's joke, can't wait to see the 3.0!

Hi marcoss

I don't mind, excellent work!
I will do some modifications my self to the UI of Orangoo spell - it's too simple now.

amix

I have just rolled out the new UI update :) The new stuff is:
- An user can easily see what language is currently selected
- An user can more easily change the language
- The languages in the language selection window are represented in their own language. A Spanish user may not know that Spanish is the English word for Spanish, but may be more familiar with Espa±ol :)

I've been playing around with it a lot, and i was thinking on using it on wordpress, but I'll wait for next release which look pretty well.

Great work ;)

I really like this spell checker. I have added it to my forum. However, I am having a problem with language selection. I am using the asp version (James Newtown's googie.asp page on your site). Regardless of which language is chosen by the user, it only checks in English. Do you know how I can fix this?

Nevermind. I fixed the problem. If you would like, I could send you the updated googie.asp file. Let me know if you want it so you can update it to your site.

The spell check works great in IE but doesn't seem to work on my Mozilla/5.0 Firefox/2.0.
Mozilla error console show:
Permission denied to call XMLHttpRequest.open
This happens on my local machine and on my external site hosted with GoDaddy.com. I do not get this error from your example site. Can you help me.

Thanks,
Chuck
